The family of this Saratoga home asked KCRH to re-envision a large part of their yard that was underdeveloped and underutilized for many years, into a space that would be a functional outdoor retreat tailored to the family’s lifestyle. The goal was to integrate multiple areas for relaxation, games and entertainment, as well as ample space for fruit and vegetable production.

A steep slope that previously divided the home from the expansive rear yard was addressed with a new, gracious staircase and a new planting scheme for year round interest. This not only improved access to a host of new opportunities, but also enhanced the visual appeal of the landscape from within the house.

The large sloping lawn area was transformed into the hub of the rear yard retreat. The pool is the central feature, with cascading fountains and a gracious lounge area under the canopy of a mature Oak.

Linked to the pool are the many use spaces, including the pool house for cooking and dining, the play spaces, with bocce ball and putting green, fire pits for evening conversation, as well as the abundant garden spaces for fruits and vegetables.
